Center Line, Mich. — Team Mopar® motorsports coverage “with an attitude” will premiere next week on MavTV, courtesy of SpeedFreaks®. The first half-hour of SpeedFreaks’ new “reality” motorsports program is scheduled to air on the MavTV cable and satellite network (U.S., Canada and the U.K.) on Monday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m., prior to the kick-off of Monday Night Football (check local cable or satellite provider for MavTV in your area). Immediately following the MavTV network debut, the entire SpeedFreaks “webisode” will be exclusively available for download at www.MavTV.com on the SpeedFreaks page.

A new Mopar-centric SpeedFreaks webisode will launch each Monday at 8 p.m. for five consecutive weeks starting with the inaugural MavTV network broadcast. The SpeedFreaks trio of Kenny Sargent, Crash Gladys and Statt Mann Caruthers will document Team Mopar drivers both at and away from the track to give fans a unique “peak behind the curtains” look at the life of a Mopar-powered race car driver.

The first episode follows Team Mopar SCORE Desert off-road driver Brian Collins as he tests his Mopar Dodge Ram 1500 in the desert and unwinds—at the gun range—after a hard day of racing. The show will also give viewers a glimpse as four-time NHRA POWERade champion and Team Mopar Funny Car driver Gary “Wild Thing” Scelzi leaves his usual “office” at the drag strip and indulges in his other passion—circle track racing—in support of the Michael Ross Memorial Foundation.

Future SpeedFreaks webisodes will spotlight additional Team Mopar stars, including NASCAR Sprint Cup star and Team Mopar World of Outlaws /USAC Sprint and Midget team owner Kasey Kahne. Kasey Kahne Racing drivers Brady Bacon, Brad Sweet and Joey Saldana will also appear, as will two-time Formula Drift champ Samuel Hübinette, NHRA Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson, SCCA road-racer Cindi Lux and Mopar-powered racing legend Don “Big Daddy” Garlits.”

“SpeedFreaks debut on MavTV featuring Mopar motorsports stars far exceeded our expectations,” said Sargent. “We wanted to produce something that has not been done in motorsports coverage and serve up the ‘real reality’ on who these drivers are away from the media. It’s been attempted before by others but with a lot of gloss and network interference. SpeedFreaks’ MavTV shows have such an edge and authenticity to them that you’ll feel like Gary Scelzi just rang your doorbell and ran or Kasey Kahne should serve you up a warm double non fat latte. Better yet, only on SpeedFreaks do you get ‘Big Daddy’ Don Garlits as the cool grandfather telling you stories your mom and dad don’t want you to know.”

“The SpeedFreaks will bring a unique and candid viewpoint to their coverage of Team Mopar,” said Sunil Lahoti, Senior Manager – Mopar Marketing and Brand, Chrysler LLC. “They are as passionate about motorsports and Mopar as any Mopar fan. Their new Webcasts will give the Mopar Nation an unfiltered snapshot of our Team Mopar racing stars at work and at play. This will not be your usual, run-of-the-mill, motorsports coverage.”

70 Years of Mopar

When Chrysler bought Dodge in 1928, the need for a dedicated parts manufacturer, supplier and distribution system to support the growing enterprise led to the formation of the Chrysler Motor Parts Corporation (CMPC) in 1929.

Originally used in the 1920s, Mopar (a simple contraction of the words MOtor and PARts) was trademarked for a line of antifreeze products in 1937. It was also widely used as a moniker for the CMPC. The Mopar brand made its mark in the 1960s – the muscle car era. The Chrysler Corporation built race-ready Dodge and Plymouth “package cars” equipped with special high-performance parts. Mopar carried a line of “Special Parts” for super stock drag racers and developed its racing parts division called Mopar Performance Parts to enhance speed and handling for both road and racing use.

Today, Chrysler LLC’s Global Service & Parts division is responsible for the manufacturing and distribution of nearly 250,000 authentic Mopar replacement parts, components and accessories for Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge vehicles sold around the world. To assure quality, reliability and durability, all Mopar parts and accessories are designed in strict adherence to Chrysler Engineering standards.
